  • 1 heaping tablespoon garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sweet potato starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 20-25 Thai basil leaves (optional)
  • vegetable oil (can substitute canola oil, peanut oil, or any other frying oil of choice)
  • 1 cup sweet potato starch
  • salt and white pepper (to taste)
