Rajma/Chole Masala

Kidney Beans/Chick Peas in Indian Gravy

Recipe of Rajma/Chole Masala by Jaishree & Vibhuti

Ingredients

  • Rajma/Chole (1 handful)
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Onion 1
  • Tomatoes 2
  • Green Chilli
  • Garam Masala Pieces
  • Butter (for Rajma)
  • Milk or Cream (for Rajma)

Steps

  1. Wash and soak Rajma/Chole for 1 whole day
  2. Drain and add fresh water
  3. Pressure Cook with salt till very soft
  4. Crush ginger and garlic into paste
  5. Chop Onion Finely
  6. Chop tomatoes finely
  7. Slit Green Chilli
  8. Heat Oil
  9. Add jeera & hing
  10. Add garam masala pieces - clove, cardomom, cinnamon, tej pata
  11. Add slit green chilli
  12. Add chopped onion
  13. Add salt, haldi, dhania powder. Can add optional masalas like jeera powder, rajma masala, garam masala, amchur
  14. When onion is slightly burnt, add chopped tomatoes
  15. Cook till the masala is completely soft. Keep mashing with the ladle in the wok itself to a paste
  16. Transfer the masala to cooker along with cooked rajma/chole and its water. If making Rajma, add butter and milk.
  17. Pressure Cook for some more time till blended well
  18. If making Rajma, garnish with cream (optional). If making Chole, garnish with Coriander.
