Osaka Style Okonomiyaki

Loaded with anything you like! This version uses bacon as a substitution for pork belly

Ingredients

  • 1 cup okonomiyaki flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 Head of Cabbage
  • 4 Green Onions
  • 1 Tablespoon Hondashi
  • 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 4 Strips of Bacon
  • Toppings
  • Okonomiyaki Sauce
  • Japanese Mayonnaise
  • Katsuobushi
  • Notes
  • Meat and toppings should be adjusted to personal preference. Bacon can be replaced by pork belly, squid, octopus, beef or anything else that sounds good to you.

Steps

  1. Add water to mixing bowl, then add flour 1/3 at a time, stirring to prevent clumping
  2. Add eggs, hondashi and soy sauce to bowl. Mix well
  3. Chop whole green onions and add to bowl
  4. Remove stem and thick inner leaves from the cabbage head. Fold remaining half cabbage head over itself and cut into thin strips
  5. Add cabbage to bowl and mix well
  6. Cut bacon into small squares. Use 1/2 of the squares to to line a medium frying pan. Add oil and heat at medium heat until sizzling
  7. Place half the contents of the mixing bowl evenly over bacon. Continue to cook at medium heat for 7 minutes
  8. Place plate over the frying pan and use to flip. After flipping continue to cook for 7 for minutes
  9. Plate and add sauces as desired
